The Nu Omega Alumni Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. proudly presents #ItTakesAMan, an ongoing initiative challenging men to lead with purpose, take accountability, prioritize their physical and mental health, protect their peace, and invest in the lives of others. Through powerful messages and meaningful conversations, we’re redefining strength, encouraging personal growth, and reminding men that true leadership begins with how we show up for ourselves, our families, and our communities.
From breaking the stigma surrounding mental health to building up other men, taking responsibility for our actions, and creating a legacy worth leaving behind, #ItTakesAMan is more than a social media campaign. It’s a call to action. We invite you to be part of the conversation. The Nu Omega Way
The Nu Omega Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1982 in Greensboro, North Carolina, carrying forward the proud tradition of our national organization: “Building a Tradition, Not Resting Upon One.” For over four decades, we have been a visible and active force in our community, dedicated to service, brotherhood, and the empowerment of others. Our chapter’s presence is felt through our participation in key community events such as the Ben L. Smith High School Greek Day, the Rosa Foundation Coat Drive, the Greensboro and High Point Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day parades, and the Men’s Walk in High Point.
Beyond supporting existing initiatives, the Nu Omega Chapter also takes pride in creating impactful programs of our own. One such event is Papas and Ponytails, an annual event which fosters stronger bonds between fathers and daughters under the unique and engaging pretense of teaching men how to style their daughters’ hair. This innovative program was so well-received that it earned a feature on the front page of the *News and Record* newspaper. As fathers, sons, brothers, and friends, we are deeply committed to serving our community and upholding the values of Iota Phi Theta through meaningful action and steadfast dedication.
Nu Omega Initiatives
The Nu Omega Alumni Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. is proud to reflect on the successful third year of Papas and Ponytails, held this year in High Point in partnership with the City of High Point. As part of our Men’s Health Initiative, Papas and Ponytails continues to focus on strengthening the emotional, mental, and family wellness of Black and Brown men by creating intentional space for fathers to connect with the young girls in their lives.
This year’s event brought together fathers, daughters, community partners, stylists, speakers, and volunteers for a meaningful day of learning and connection. Fathers received hands-on guidance from professional stylists Monica Hawthorne and Cquamaryah Rountree, while speakers Valda Ford and Ronald Lavender Jr. added depth and purpose to the experience. Even after high winds knocked out the power grid across High Point—leaving the venue without electricity for the first hours of the event—the community showed resilience, and the program carried on.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors—Taylor Publishing, Second Chance Music, Black Wall Street LLC, and TLC Early Childhood Consulting—as well as the vendors, volunteers, and every family who participated. Papas and Ponytails continues to grow because of the people who believe in it, show up for it, and push forward together. Year 3 affirmed that this work matters, and we look forward to what’s next.

On September 17, 2026, members of the Nu Omega Alumni Chapter along with the Zeta Undergraduate Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. were honored as the Guilford County Board of Commissioners formally recognized September 19, 2026, as Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. Founders’ Day in Guilford County.
Presented by District 7 Commissioner Frankie T. Jones, Jr., the resolution acknowledged our fraternity’s longstanding dedication to scholarship, leadership, citizenship, fidelity, and brotherhood, as well as our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the communities we serve.
The recognition celebrated the contributions of our Nu Omega Alumni Chapter, the Zeta Chapter at North Carolina A&T State University, and brothers throughout Guilford County who continue to uphold our fraternity’s principles through mentorship, volunteerism, youth development, and community partnerships.
For Nu Omega, this recognition represents more than a ceremonial moment. It is a reminder of the responsibility we carry as Iota men to lead by example, invest in our communities, and build a legacy of service that extends far beyond ourselves.

As we celebrate our fraternity’s 63rd Founders’ Day, we remain committed to strengthening our brotherhood and continuing the work of making a positive impact throughout Greensboro and Guilford County.
