When Greek Organizations Come Together, the Community Wins.
Nu Omega is teaming up with the Delta Sigma Sigma Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. for two community-focused initiatives. Through Operation Big Bookbag, we’re helping provide students at Jones Elementary with the supplies they need for a strong school year. We’re also coming together for Demystifying Graduate Greek Life, an open conversation designed to answer questions and provide real insight into Black Greek-letter organizations beyond the college years.

The Nu Omega Way
The Nu Omega Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. was founded in 1982 in Greensboro, North Carolina, carrying forward the proud tradition of our national organization: “Building a Tradition, Not Resting Upon One.” For over four decades, we have been a visible and active force in our community, dedicated to service, brotherhood, and the empowerment of others. Our chapter’s presence is felt through our participation in key community events such as the Ben L. Smith High School Greek Day, the Rosa Foundation Coat Drive, the Greensboro and High Point Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day parades, and the Men’s Walk in High Point.
Beyond supporting existing initiatives, the Nu Omega Chapter also takes pride in creating impactful programs of our own. One such event is Papas and Ponytails, an annual event which fosters stronger bonds between fathers and daughters under the unique and engaging pretense of teaching men how to style their daughters’ hair. This innovative program was so well-received that it earned a feature on the front page of the *News and Record* newspaper. As fathers, sons, brothers, and friends, we are deeply committed to serving our community and upholding the values of Iota Phi Theta through meaningful action and steadfast dedication.
Nu Omega Initiatives
The Nu Omega Alumni Chapter of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. is proud to reflect on the successful third year of Papas and Ponytails, held this year in High Point in partnership with the City of High Point. As part of our Men’s Health Initiative, Papas and Ponytails continues to focus on strengthening the emotional, mental, and family wellness of Black and Brown men by creating intentional space for fathers to connect with the young girls in their lives.
This year’s event brought together fathers, daughters, community partners, stylists, speakers, and volunteers for a meaningful day of learning and connection. Fathers received hands-on guidance from professional stylists Monica Hawthorne and Cquamaryah Rountree, while speakers Valda Ford and Ronald Lavender Jr. added depth and purpose to the experience. Even after high winds knocked out the power grid across High Point—leaving the venue without electricity for the first hours of the event—the community showed resilience, and the program carried on.
We extend our sincere gratitude to our sponsors—Taylor Publishing, Second Chance Music, Black Wall Street LLC, and TLC Early Childhood Consulting—as well as the vendors, volunteers, and every family who participated. Papas and Ponytails continues to grow because of the people who believe in it, show up for it, and push forward together. Year 3 affirmed that this work matters, and we look forward to what’s next.
